Together with district administrator Peter Dreier, Landshut business development manager Michael Luger and Lord Mayor Alexander Putz, MIPA’s CEO Markus Fritzsche (right) and board member Klaus Fritzsche (centre) announced the merger with Landshuter Lackfabrik.

In December 2018 the business of the insolvent Landshuter Lackfabrik was taken over by MIPA SE and continued to operate as an independent company under the name Landshuter Lackfabrik GmbH. Since then it was not only possible to integrate the company into the Mipa Group but to also achieve positive results after a short amount of time. Now the next step towards a common future shall follow: On 01.01.2021 the Landshuter Lackfabrik GmbH will merge with MIPA SE.

Production will continue at the current location in Landshut as a new plant of MIPA SE. Since the takeover, the course for a promising development has already been set there through numerous modernisations of buildings and machines. In addition to renovations and structural changes, important core processes have also been standardised and optimised. Numerous further investments in a modern and future-proof production facility in Landshut have already been commissioned for 2021.

After the research and development departments for wood and industrial coatings have already been relocated from Essenbach to Landshut, the focus now lies on the expansion of the technical centre and the training section for wood coatings. The aim is to transfer the products to the respective application type of the end customer in close proximity to the R&D department for wood coatings. In the course of this, besides numerous new investments, the corresponding equipment, which is currently distributed at different locations of the Mipa Group, will be brought together in Landshut.

In addition to the regional proximity, which allows mutual decision-makers and joint functions for the locations in Landshut and Essenbach, the similar product ranges and customer groups also have a positive effect on the upcoming merger. Thus, the Landshut site will continue to serve industrial end customers to a great extent.

Given the shared history of the two companies in Johann Baptist Mittermayer's paint factory, founded around 1900, the merger also gains historical significance. After the Landshut plant set up by Mittermayer was destroyed in World War II, the paths of the then managing directors and nephews of the founder parted ways. In this way MIPA SE, which at that time moved to nearby Essenbach as Paul Mittermayer GmbH, and the Landshuter Lackfabrik Eduard Leiss GmbH were formed. With the merger of the two paint manufacturers, the historically separate paths are now finally reunited.
