History

Today, MIPA SE can look back on a history of more than 100 years in the production of varnishes and paints, thanks to the tradition of the founding family that goes back to 1900.

Paint production in Landshut originated in the paint factory founded by Johann Baptist Mittermayer at the beginning of the 20th century. The Landshut plant was destroyed in the Second World War and the managing directors and nephews of the founder went their separate ways.

This led to the establishment of MIPA SE in 1948, which had previously been founded as Paul Mittermayer GmbH by Johann Baptist Mittermayer's eponymous nephew. After continuous growth at the Landshut location, the company moved in 1995 to Essenbach, about ten kilometres away, which offered potential for future expansion. In 2001, Paul Mittermayer GmbH was transformed into MIPA AG. The conversion to MIPA SE, a European company, took place in 2015. Since then, MIPA SE has existed as a family-owned company without a stock exchange listing.

In MIPA SE, which operates worldwide, the core of the family business has been retained to this day. This guarantees short decision-making processes, absolute focus on the needs and quality requirements of the market, and the necessary flexibility. Therefore, customers can be sure that they have a competent and reliable partner in MIPA.

Today's Landshut site of MIPA SE has the same historical origins. Back then, another nephew of Johann Baptist Mittermayer founded a company under the name "Landshuter Lackfabrik Eduard Leiss GmbH", which his successor continued to manage until 2018.

On 01.12.2018, MIPA SE took over the company, which was then still called Landshuter Lackfabrik GmbH. Two years later the two companies merged, thus joining these historically separate paths of the two Landshut paint manufacturers into one.
