As from 1 December 2018, the paint manufacturer MIPA SE, based in Essenbach/ Germany takes over the business of the insolvent Landshuter Lackfabrik Eduard Leiss GmbH.
The company will operate as a new company under the name Landshuter Lackfabrik GmbH within the Mipa Group at the previous headquarter in Dieselstraße, Landshut. This allows saving a majority of jobs at the site in Landshut. “Especially the preservation of jobs was very important when deciding on the sale. Moreover, a regional solution strengthens the company's competitiveness and promises long-term success for the company,” insolvency administrator Mr Alexander Saponjic stated.
By losing several customers, the company Landshuter Lackfabrik ended up in a precarious situation in the middle of the year and had to file for insolvency. Both in order to satisfy the interests of the creditors and to ensure a permanent continuation of the company, Saponjic decided according to his information for a sale to the Mipa Group.
With 6 additional production sites and more than 1,100 employees, MIPA has both the necessary experience and the economic strength to integrate another site and to operate it successfully in the long term. At the same time, the geographical proximity of both companies conduces to a fast implementation and boosts the regional economy in the long term.
The fact that there was little overlap regarding the clientele and very low level of competition between the two nearby paint factories despite the similarities in the product range generates considerable synergy effects. "In spite of the international orientation of the Mipa Group, the regional market is extremely important to us and we are therefore pleased to be able to further expand our leading position in the region," the CEO of MIPA SE Markus Fritzsche said.
Both companies share furthermore the same historical roots since they stem from the paint factory of Johann Baptist Mittermayer established circa 1900 in Landshut. After the destruction of the production plant in Landshut (Altdorfer Straße), during World War II, the then managing directors and nephews of the founder went separate ways. This is how the paint factory Paul Mittermayer GmbH, which moved to Essenbach in 1995 and operates today under the name MIPA, and Landshuter Lackfabrik Eduard Leiss GmbH came into being.
The takeover by MIPA SE closes the circle of history and the two branches of paint production in Landshut are reunited under one leadership.
